Autonomous Vehicles

Autonomous and Unmanned Vehicles

Are we ready to catch up with the world?

As I delve deeper into the understanding of Australia's Capability of becoming a leader in autonomous vehicles, that is to say cars, taxis and busses that are capable of the transportation of people and goods without the need of a driver, I wonder if it's our capability or the legislative structure that is holding us back.

After listening to General Motors' former chief of strategic planning Larry Burns on driverless cars it excites me to hear predictions that this will not only be a reality but a lucrative business for Australia within four years.

Britain plans to start driverless cars in three cities across Britain in 2015. These will be large-scale trials and £10 million will be made available to innovators.

Can you just imagine where this will take us?
- Relaxation, you can relax while being driven
- They will be safer, far safer. In 2013, 1193 people died on Australian roads and those crashes cost the Australian economy around $27 billion each year. Think of the savings to Health on its own!
- They are more efficient. Knowing what is coming and where every other vehicle is means an end to traffic lights, and end to congestion as we know it
- Ownership isn't necessary. You will jump in a car, or taxi that will take you. You will summon a new car when you are ready to leave.

We need to be ready to take this on. Brisbane needs to lead this.

Getting The Business To Listen

You Can Preach But No-one has to LISTEN.

There has been a lot of talk, posts and conversations recently about communications from you the PM to your teams and to the business.

BUT, it doesn't matter how much you communicate, how much you email, how much you fulfill target identification and specific marketing campaigns, HOW do you get people to listen.

Do Not Walk Infront of Me - Appreciation

Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend

Many years ago, while at school as a 12 year old, I read this out to my English teacher. I added another three verses on that I had made up? Adapted? And he stated that I was a liar and that in no way were the versus mine, apparently they were too good to be mine. 30 years later I still think how unkind this was and how that completely lost my interest in my English lessons, for ever.

The lesson I now have of this is that who ever you are, what ever my belief's of your capability I will not knock anyone for having an idea. I listen. I learn. And everyday people around teach me. I use what I am taught and I give that recognition. In life today we, that is the majority of people in western society, do not appreciate and give recognition, and I am not talking about the 10% tip. I mean the phone call to the manager, the credit on a company web page for service, for ideas, for anything.

Appreciate what we have and strive at least once a day to recognise someone.
